Deyata Kirula to display ex LTTE cadres handicrafts

Handicraft creations of former LTTE cadres in rehabilitation centres are to be exhibited at the "Deyata Kirula" Exhibition, Rehabilitation Commissioner General Brigadier S. Ranasinghe said.

He told the Tamil Mirror online that there were 4,500 former LTTE cadres at Protective Accommodation and Rehabilitation Centres (PARCs) under the Ministry of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms.

The ex-combatants are given training in masonry, carpentry, life skills and several other skills; also training is given to former LTTE cadres in Jaffna, Vavuniya and Batticaloa, Brigadier Ranasinghe said. He said a group of former LTTE cadres would be released on Independence Day.

Five hundred former LTTE cadres, who have successfully completed the diploma course in masonry are scheduled to receive certificates today in Vauniya, he added.

Former LTTE cadres are being rehabilitated at PARCs in the Northern and Eastern Provinces.
